Montería city

Montería is the capital of the Department of Córdoba . It is also considered the most important cattle city in Colombia. Montería was founded on May 1^st, 1777 by Antonio de la Torre y Miranda who moved the city from the place called Monterías to the place where the city is located today. The first name of the city was San Jerónimo de Buenavista. Some years later the city is named San Jerónimo de Montería to remember the first place where the city was founded (Monterías means place where hunters meet to hunt.) 
But, the city has changed a lot from that time. Today natives and visitors can see a city that is developing so fast. People from Montería have to be so proud of the city they were born in.

Montería Popular Festivals

The most important festival in Montería is the Cattle Festival which is celebrated in June every year. There are two beauty pageants in the Festival. The National Cattle Beauty Pageant, and The International Cattle Beauty Pageant.
It is an important festival for the region economy. People buy and sell agricultural and cattle products in this time and have a lot of fun because there are music concerts everywhere.
The National Cattle Beauty Pageant Corporation is an organization with Head office in Montería. It organizes and carries out this contest every year in June. This event started in 1961. It was organized by a group of cattle - dealer in that time. This event integrates the country through women’s beauty and gives honor or tribute to the principal Economy Product of Córdoba Region.

Enjoy Montería and the Cattle Festival, it is one of the funniest festival in Colombia. You should come and enjoy it.

Enjoy the vallenato festival in Chinú, vallenato is the most popular music in the Caribbean Region. Every year a lot of musician of this rhythm gather in this festival.

El Carito is a small village in Lorica, it celebrates the Chicha Festival in which there are a chicha contest, concerts, and other cultural activities. (Chicha is a kind of drink which is made corn, cinnamon and other spices.)

Visit Moñitos, a coast town in Córdoba. It is full of joy and beauty. If you really like to have fun and enjoy the beach, the breath and sea you should visit this town. Moñito people organize the Sea Festival. You can spend five days listening to music, eating sea food, and enjoy all the Caribbean flavor in this land.

If you enjoy costumes, you will have fun and laugh in the Donkey Festival. You can see hundreds of donkeys which are dressed up and walk along the streets.

The porro festival is a huge party. It is a beautiful band musical festival. It is celebrated every year in June. People enjoy and dance porro music during three days. There are also parades, concerts and other activities.

PUEBLO NUEVO

Visit Pueblo Nuevo and have fun during the Diaboling Festival, it is a big party to promote diaboling (a kind of snack which is made of cassava and cheese.) The party has a duration of three days. There are horse races, concerts, and more.

Dance groups from different towns participate in this competition. 

BUENA VISTA

You have to enjoy the Mapalé Festival of this town. It is celebrated in June. Many MAPALÉ GROUPS participate in the contest, the best is chosen as the winner. Mapalé is a traditional afro-Colombian dance.

SAN BERNARDO DEL VIENTO

San Bernardo is a beautiful town in the Caribbean Coast. This town organizes a big party that has a length of five days, the party includes Vallenato Concerts, Fandango Festival, horse races and more. The party is called Fiestas Patronales in honor of the Virgen del Carmen.
